Cohen, McRae Earn Weekly Honors

GREENSBORO – It is a new football season but North Carolina A&T running back Tarik Cohen is still claiming conference weekly honors. After winning five weekly honors as a freshman in 2013, in Week 1 of the 2014 season, Cohen added another.

On Tuesday Cohen was named MEAC Offensive Player of the Week, while teammate Tony McRae picked up special teams player of the week honors from the conference.

Cohen registered 161 yards and two touchdowns in the Aggies 47-13 win over Alabama A&M in the 10th annual MEAC/SWAC Challenge on Sunday. McRae was the catalyst for the Aggies blowout as his 95-yard kickoff return started a string of 38 unanswered points.

Cohen's day was highlighted by a career-high 80-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Cohen also had a run of a 46-yard run in the third quarter that set up a 5-yard TD run by freshman Marquell Cartwright. Cohen was named the game's MVP. In his career, Cohen has claimed four offensive player of the week honors from the MEAC and two weekly conference honors.

McRae, who also doubles as the Aggies starting cornerback, recorded his second career kickoff return with his 95-yard run on Sunday. His other career kickoff return also occurred during the opening game of a season as he returned a kick 91 yards in the Aggies 2013 opener at Appalachian State.

The Aggies face No. 5 Coastal Carolina 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 6 in their home opener at Aggie Stadium.
