EAST GREENSBORO – North Carolina A&T head football coach Sam Washington announced the addition of another assistant coach to his staff on Tuesday. 

Lamont Seward, who has coached at many levels of college football during his career, will coach running backs at A&T starting in 2022. 

"Lamont Seward will be an excellent addition to our coaching staff," said Washington. "He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program. He has coached at Division I-FBS, Division I-FCS, Division II, and the high school ranks. He has worn many hats during his 18-year coaching career, and that experience will pay dividends. Lamont is a man of high character and will do a great job building relationships with the players."

Seward comes to A&T after spending six seasons at Division II West Alabama, where he served as the associate head coach, passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. He also handled special teams for the Tigers. 

In 2019, the Tigers led the Gulf South Conference in kickoff returns, kickoff returns defense and they were second in net punting. A season earlier, the Tigers had three of the top seven receivers in the conference. The Tigers went to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons (2017, 2018), and they won the conference in 2017 after leading the Gulf South in kickoff returns and net punting. 

Seward spent the 2014 season coaching running backs at Army. Before his time at Army, he coached wide receivers (2010-11) for the first two years before coaching running backs (2012-13) for two seasons at Georgia Southern as a part of Jeff Monken's staff. 

Georgia Southern reached three consecutive (2010-12) FCS semifinal playoff appearances during Seward's tenure. The Eagles also won back-to-back Southern Conference titles in 2011 and 2012 and led the FCS in rushing in 2012. Even when the Eagles played their first season as a Division I-FBS school in 2013, they still rushed for 3,964 yards. 

As the Eagles wide receivers coach in 2011, the Eagles ranked second in the nation in passing efficiency. 

Seward has also worked as an assistant coach at West Georgia and Western Carolina. Seward began his coaching career as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator at Warren County High School before joining the Western Carolina staff.

As a player at Western Carolina, Seward was a member of the Southern Conference All-Decade Team (1997-2006), finishing his career third on the WCU and SoCon lists for receptions with 190. He is third all-time in receiving yards (2,971) at WCU.
